About this item

This Jel Bati is a traditional Assamese dining bowl handcrafted in bell metal (Kansa) by artisans of Sarthebari and Hajo. It has a smooth, rounded body with a slightly raised rim and a neatly engraved ring at the centre of the base, finished in a warm golden tone. It measures about 16 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height. Use it to serve dal, curries, rice, payas or sweets at everyday meals and festive feasts. Kansa bowls are a valued part of Assamese homes and make a thoughtful gift for weddings, Bihu and house-warming occasions.

Care/Usage

Usage: Ideal for serving rice, curries, sweets and daily meals; also suited to puja and festive use. Avoid heating directly on flame and avoid storing sour or acidic food for long periods.Care: Wash with mild soap or traditional tamarind/lemon and ash scrub, rinse and wipe dry immediately with a soft cloth. Do not use steel wool or harsh abrasives. Polish occasionally with pitambari or lemon and salt to restore the shine.
