About this item
The Ektara is one of the simplest yet most soulful instruments in Assamese folk music — a single string stretched over a hand-shaped body of bamboo and wood, plucked with the fingers to produce a steady, twanging drone. Traditionally carried by wandering folk singers and used to accompany devotional and narrative songs, its pear-shaped resonator amplifies the string's vibration into a warm, rustic tone. Handcrafted by local artisans from natural bamboo and wood, this Ektara is a compact, authentic piece of Assam's rural musical tradition, equally suited to being played or kept as a decorative craft piece.
