About this item
This Dhol brings the same time-honoured construction as Assam's classic Bihu drum, hand-carved this time from Sam Kothal wood, a close cousin of jackfruit wood chosen by artisans for its fine grain and slightly lighter feel. Both ends of the cylindrical body are sealed with tautly-laced goat-skin membranes secured by leather straps and rings, giving the drum its familiar dual tone — bright when struck with a bamboo stick, deep and bassy when played by hand. Traditionally slung across the shoulder of a dhuliya (drummer), this dhol has powered Bihu performances, weddings and rituals for generations, and now brings that same craft heritage into your home.

Wood Made
Care/Usage
Keep away from direct sunlight, high humidity and rain to prevent the wooden shell from warping and the leather membrane from loosening. Wipe the wooden body with a dry soft cloth after use; avoid water contact with the skin heads. Store upright in a cool, dry place and loosen the lacing slightly during long storage.
Colour/Look
Warm brown wooden barrel body with natural grain, contrasting black-rimmed leather drumheads and natural leather lacing.
