About this item

This Tal Standard is a pair of traditional Assamese hand cymbals handcrafted from bell metal (Kansa) by the metalsmiths of Sarthebari and Hajo. Each cymbal has a raised domed centre and a wide, flat rim, hand-beaten and tuned to give a bright, ringing tone. Each measures about 28 cm in diameter. Tal is an essential rhythm instrument in Bihu performances, Borgeet, Naam-kirtan, Bhaona and Ankiya Naat, and in devotional singing at Namghars and homes. A fine choice for students, performers and cultural groups, and a meaningful gift for music lovers and collectors.
